The scripture is contingent to the scripture before it… And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.
18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. 19 We love each other[b] because he loved us first.
The main issue is that many Christians struggle in their heart is that they are NOT living in loving and trusting relationship with God more than their concern for their own lives and are NOT choosing to ‘live like Jesus here in this world’. Jesus was selfless and laid his life down and was constantly judged and mistreated as well as suffered a criminals death. Most Christians are more concerned about their own life and feelings and Jesus never considered that stuff and the Apostles called it out when writing to Christians.
Jesus said, ” “The Son of Man[a] must suffer many terrible things,” he said. “He will be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He will be killed, but on the third day he will be raised from the dead.”
23 Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. 24 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.”
Look at all the long list of perils that the Apostle Paul experienced. Like Jesus said, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
Put off the old and put on the new… get rid of bitterness, rage, and the rest of it as the Holy Spirit admonishes through the Apostles letters. We have been restore to relationship with the Father through Christ’s sacrifice so we can live like him as we live for him.
Unfortunately, a self focused centered version of the Gospel concerned about our own feelings and life has tainted the true Gospel and distracted many Christians on living the life we have all been called to — to live like Christ. Keep looking forward and pursuing Christ — not a better life. “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Read in context, the whole Chapter of Matthew 6.
I encourage you to spend more time with God and really know his Word, especially the New Testament where we know Jesus and are encouraged to live like him. God IS good and IS love and IS faithful no matter how we feel. He will commune with us when we surrender and pursue him and to live selflessly and righteously like Jesus letting him be our life. Consider all he has done for us already through his life, suffering and the restoration of relationship to God.
Love has always meant unbelievable pain in my life….now at 52 im having rework what Gods love really means
